It was a winter morning, the house faces the east. The house looked glorious as brick and stone glistened and shadows were drawn. It is amazing how obscure imaginations get on to paper and the will executes it to tangible spaces. As I was crossing the threshold, it reminded me the exact months the project was on. It was 16 months. Too long, too late. The project started as per schedule. The concept was unique-A house with a view, with a courtyard, a basement, sunken garden with detail to light and circulation. What went wrong? Delay kills the spirit. Contractor Shivanna promised the basement to be completed in 1 month, but reality was with the workforce of 1 chief mason and 2-3 labourers, it dragged on to 2 1/2months. Looking back, an analysis would have dictated the manpower and manhours. A simple math of the quantum of stonework to time taken to build a unit, by 2 labourers would have made a clear statement that it was a false promise by Shivanna. The difficult working condition coupled with complexity of design demanded a project analysis. Further to add, a neat calculation of list of activities, inventory, labour, time, quality check would have streamlined the project releasing bandwidth for creativity. Simple Analysis would have saved time , money and more important the essence of any architectural venture –Precise and Unique and be on Dot.(Is KALMADI Listening)!!!
